Different types of wire rope slings
Wire rope slings are used for
years, and are more robust and durable than nylon slings, with higher
temperature limits.
Wire cable lifting slings used by
the crane, rigging and material handling industries are available in many
different styles and constructions.
- Single Part Wire Rope Sling
The eye for a single part wire
rope sling is formed by looping wire ropes back on to the ropes. The end of the
rope is attached via a clamp, or woven by hand, mechanically into the rope
body. Single part wire rope slings utilize single wire ropes to produce the
sling.
- Braided Wire Rope Sling
A braided wire rope sling is made
from braiding wire ropes to form a sling. The increased number of strands
enhanced sling strength, and load capacity. The braiding for braided wire rope
sling can be executed with three to nine wire ropes.
- Cable Laid Wire Rope Sling
Cable laid wire rope slings are
made from combining many smaller wire ropes to form flexible, easy to handle
and kink-resistant sling.
- Woven Eye Wire Rope Sling
For the woven eye design of a
wire rope sling, the eye is formed by weaving wire ropes onto itself after the
loop formation. This is designed to minimize the change of the sling catching
or being hung upon lifting.
- Thimble Wire Rope Sling
To add to wire rope sling
strength all while reducing the stress on a small area of the eye – a thimble,
a U-shaped piece onto which the wire rope fits is placed in the eye that helps
the sling retain its natural shape. The thimble is designed to prevent the load
or hook from encountering the wire rope.
